Thank you for your exciting and interesting project submission! I am pleased to have created a design that I believe you will find ideal given your presented spatial conflicts and design requirements.
The attached documents should provide a clear explanation of my presented design. Because of the deadline move, I was unable to complete detailed construction documents for your project. However, I am happy to complete these for you if my project is selected as the winner.
Your kitchen has been redesigned to not only provide a more accommodating and conversational space, but to open up the space and really emphasize the large size of the kitchen. I have removed the existing orientation and redesigned it so that there is an open flow between the primary kitchen workspace and the large bay window portion of the kitchen. There is now no peninsula blocking this continuous area. I have expanded the linear nature of the cabinets into a cushioned bench-seating area that continues underneath the bay windows and provides additional seating with or without your six-person dining table. The depth of this custom bench allows for pull-out drawers underneath, providing additional storage aside from the traditional cabinet storage.
You will notice that the arrangement of the kitchen has been altered enough to provide a dramatic result, but not so much as to create an absurdly expensive project. Without compromising the spaciousness of the adjacent room, I have developed a higher-level bar portion of your countertop that will easily sit five people at bar stool height. This raised bar will allow for conversation and viewing over the countertop as an alternative to sitting on the bench seat or at the dining table. The orientation of the sink and stove will allow for interactivity between those seated at the bar and those cooking or preparing.
I have replaced existing fixtures, finishes, and other features to embody a more transitional design aesthetic. The color palette, geometry, and texture selections come together to create an emergent design that is refined and contemporary without being stark or overly modern. I trust that you will sense a feeling of warmth in the selected materials and finishes.
One of the things that popped out to me most in the photos of the existing space was the way that light was not spreading throughout the kitchen. I have proposed new recessed lighting in the ceiling above the primary kitchen area. In addition to this, I have proposed new pendant lighting over the bar area, a new large chandelier in the bay window area, and under cabinet lighting. I have also kept from blocking or removing any of the existing windows in order to encourage the entry of natural light in your space.
This space is sleek, refined, and classy. I believe it the best use of the space using the most efficient design methods. I do hope you love your new design! Please consider me for any of your future remodeling or interior design projects. Thank you for the opportunity to assist you!
