This house is in Massachusetts, USA, where we get a lot of snow in winter and mud in spring. We would like to create space for two adults, two children and guests to place coats, gloves, hats and boots. Entry area currently has wooden trunk for sitting to change shoes, boot trays and small, overcrowded coat closet.
We are also considering narrowing the area between the foyer and dining room, possibly with an archway made of oak or glass brick. Currently, the space flows openly, allowing people on the street and front door to see straight through the foyer, dining room, back porch, and into the back yard.
Also probably should lay tile from garage door to new front entryway to connect them and to avoid tracking in snow and mud from the garage.
House is cedar post and beam with a lot of glass, looking out over forest and a lake. Natural wood is a theme in the house with cedar posts and trim; doors are all oak as are many pieces of furniture are oak. Floor is oak hardwood. Note wall outlet and light switches on wall in annotated photograph.
