Hello! I am looking to completely redesign my living room/family room with a traditional look but with a summer beach cottage accent. The space is very small and narrow and all 4 walls are broken by either arched doorways or windows or a fireplace, so furniture placement is very difficult. The current condition is neat and clean but it lacks style and lacks enough seating for a family of 4 for use as our primary TV room (family room). I hope to achieve a stylish, traditional family TV room with a "summer cottage" accent. I would like more seating and a more cohesive look in terms of style. The only item in the room I wish to keep is the white wooden blinds. They are brand new and in great condition.
I am only looking for design considerations...I am not looking to remodel. The walls, windows, archways and fireplace will remain. I will consider painting the fireplace and changing the insert. There are also two radiators under each window that extend 6 inches into the living area. The "built in" shelves to the right of the fireplace can easily be removed...they are poor quality so I would like to remove them.
I want to have the room very family friendly and functional. It must also be very comfortable as this is the area my family mostly gathers for TV. Light color sofas should be avoided as we have a family dog and younger children. Since it is an informal family area, I am not looking for top end furniture but middle end, with a very cohesive design throughout.
