This is for a living room that we plan to be our main living/hanging out/tv room (in other words not super formal but comfortable and liveable). We are calling this the villa room due to the wood floors and high beamed ceilings. There is an arch that leads into the room. The view across will lead into the kitchen that we are transforming into more of a tuscan kitchen feel.
We like the idea of making this feel like an airy villa, yet with a cozy twist. However we are open to other ideas.
The room is 21' x 14' (294 sq feet). The floors are a dark wood. The fire place is brick that is currently painted red and we are willing to change.
NOTE: We plan to remove the book cases so the measurements of the 21' length is from the wall - not from the book case.
Bookcases will be removed. Window on the bookcase wall has a deep windowsill (about 13").
There is a door to the exterior in this room. However, it will rarely be used if ever.
Fireplace is brick painted red and can be stripped/changed. Insert can be changed.
Wood floors are a darker wood.
Windows are old corded windows.
The house itself is a 1930's cream city brick with much of the original wood, windows, and details.
The TV will be over the fireplace.
There is an antique record player that opens from the top pictured in front of the window with the two lamps. We would like that record player to stay somewhere in the room if possible.
The furniture you see in the picture does not need to stay in that room but it can.
The brown high back arm chair is actually a muted leopard print.
We don't need curtains or window coverings as we have a lot of privacy.
We have two boston terriers that love to run around and be on top of everything.
We hate anything that is country kitchen, chintzy, etc. We like simple, layered, textured looks - like restoration hardware. We aren't afraid of some color or great statement pieces of art either.
Affordability is up in the air. If we see something we really like but can't afford it - we will go to antique stores and piece out a similar option.
We will splurge on a sofa. Leather isn't out of the question if it is a distressed leather that won't show the dog scratches.
