We bought an older condo, remodeled 36 years ago, in a building built in 1976 with 1600 sq feet on the ocean facing south with a balcony. We want to reuse some of the space in a different way. The bedrooms need 90 percent of the floors to be covered in carpet for noise management. One of the bedrooms (bedroom two on the drawings) has had a fourth sleeping area built into it. We are not sure if we want to keep it or not.
We have five grown kids and need different spaces to sleep. We want to view the ocean as much as possible.
We want to remove the two walls around the kitchen to open it up. Ideally, we want to move the washer and dryer (which is right inside the front door now) but need to know if we could vent it elsewhere. There is a room off the kitchen which was the dining room and is now a bedroom - it has two coveted windows. We wonder if we can make it a swing room. But it needs to be a sleeping room too, it has a door.
We are thinking of cutting a window in the kitchen that would access the light of the former dining room so there would be a view over the sink. We would need to close it off to sound and light if people were sleeping there. We want to put granite in the kitchen and make a two level maybe L-shaped island.
The master bedroom is huge, the master bath is small but there are two walk in closets close to it so perhaps one could be used for bathroom expansion and/or laundry. That area of closets in master suite is very dark, we would like to get light in from the master bedroom window if that is possible. We also want to remove the small wall at the end of the living room, so more light is viewable when you walk in.
We need sleeping areas for guests and kids in the summer. In the winter is mostly just the the two of us using it. We like lighter colors and simplicity. We read alot and work on computers. We would like a small space for a printer. We like wood. We don't like super beachy, goofy items. We love views of the ocean.
It can't be super elaborate and have lots of mill work. We don't have a huge budget so it cannot be "over the top". It is shore condo so we want it open and airy. We want it to have a long shelf life and not be so trendy that in four years it will be "out of style". We need use the existing water hookups and not move water sources but take advantage of those that are there now. We need more kitchen storage. .
