The key concepts driving the design were the environmental perfomance of the building in a hot climate, display spay for potential retail clients and also a design that is not too ellien from the surroundings.
The use of the Brasle solair and the laminated timber overhang will shade the glazed faced hence minimizing the solar gains. This will lower the environmental impact of the building as a result of lower power required to cool the building. Overhangs have become a feature in Hamilton's town center.
A masonry and glass facade acts as a medium between the present and the past. As with most retail oulets, the foot fall is proportional to the amount of goods displayed as a self marking mechanism.
The glass-aluminium grid shell will enhance the lux levels in the building meaning there will be less artificial lighting needed during the day.
The enclosed design is a preliminary design, it is recommended that if some aspects of the design were to be adopted, further guidance or detailed drawing or a team will be required.
Lastly I would like to thank you for offering an opportunity to attempt to solve the design problem.
