I need my backyard landscaped. I would like a Biblical theme, using plants mentioned in the Bible, or plants that tell part of the redemption story.
The current condition of the back yard is quite sad. There are a lot of weeds. There is a sprinkler system, but it has not been used for years, so must be repaired.
I want to achieve a peaceful retreat and a place which I can use to teach Bible stories to adults and children alike.
The design should include a water feature, preferably one in which children can splash in. The water feature should reflect John 7:38 -- an overflow. This should be a simple design - such as one vessel pouring into another.
I also have two young grandsons. I would like to include a play structure that looks something like a fort. This will reflect Proverbs 18:10 (the name of the Lord is a strong tower, and the righteous runs into it, and are safe.)
All the plants selected should tell a part of the redemption story, and all parts of the story point to Christ. I believe that grape vines can be the central element representing Christ. (John 15:5 and other passages as well).
I want a beautiful and functional yard. It should be a yard where children are free to play and explore. Perhaps plants can be arranged so that there is a way to play "hide and seek".
The patio should be covered, perhaps with a pergola. It would be OK to expand the patio.
I like the pavers around the raised bed. I would like something fragrant planted between these stones would be good. I would like all the senses engaged in the backyard, including the sense of smell (II Cor. 2:15-17)
Ease of care -- I travel and I also get lazy with yard work. As much as I want a great back yard, I don't want to spend all my spare time caring for it.
Incorporation of the plants I have on my list. They do not all have to be selected, but they are on my list for a reason.
